                                                          About me

I suppose I have many strings to my bow, I love the sight of a delicious card or a beautiful book. Colour is the most satisfying aspect of my world and I get to use it every day!

Painting
As an artist I work in a number of areas. I create abstract paintings in acrylics and other supporting mediums, I print in a variety of
ways, enjoying screen printing at the moment. I also bind books, some with empty pages, some with found treasure pages and some as concept or artist books.
I like trees and colour and I take my inspiration from words, feelings and emotions. The reaction that the outside stimulus produces creates a reaction in me that is often cross wired. I will feel a colour, taste a shape, see a sound, these reactions represents a concept or idea and can then be drawn and worked on.
It takes me a long time to create a painting as the form needs to be worked out then the process of layers starting with texture and shape then layers of colour to attempt to create what already exists in my head.
Book Art
Human beings interact naturally with a book, being taught the fundamentals as a child. They are comfortable with the handling and understand how it works.
My work tends to focus on emotions, my ideas and concepts are often visually stimulated but can then be traced back to the emotion of that idea.
I have fine art training and experience and I have a degree in Graphic Design which helps me to transform any idea into the naturally sequential rhythm of pages, taking an idea and being able to tell the tale visually and editorially.
I am a painter and print-maker but sometimes an idea cannot be interpreted into a 2D image, books are another way of communicating with the world. I have been making books for many years, I do love a long stitch project book.
I have created a number of Artist Books such as Music, Abundance and 50 Shades of Asphalt.

I studied typography and printing for three years, studying all aspects of design. After leaving college I worked within the design and print industry generating graphic images for the business arena and illustrations for the stationery industry.
I then returned to education and achieved a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design, before going on to teach in art and design for several years in local colleges. I returned to University to study for a post graduate Diploma in Fine Art. I now create images for all aspects of life, from wild flowery collages to painterly trees
